Turn the Grid GreenOUR COMMITMENT TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Our vision is to empower our customers to generate their own energy, promoting a model that is local, regenerative, and community-led. We also aspire to produce our own renewable energy, ensuring the energy we supply is directly from our own generation. At Rebel Energy, providing clean energy is a core part of our mission. However, our rapid growth presents challenges in securing direct renewable energy from generators to meet our customers’ needs. This has led us to reevaluate traditional methods. We have decided against using Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs).
While REGOs can certify energy as 100% renewable, we are concerned about the potential for greenwashing. It’s difficult to determine how much this practice genuinely supports renewable generation in the UK versus benefiting traders or intermediaries. Instead, we’ve chosen a different path. We believe our resources can be better spent addressing the environmental damage caused by the energy industry and helping those in poverty by reducing their energy consumption. We’re committed to investing in initiatives that support nature and alleviate poverty in the UK.
The Rebel way is to view this as a self-imposed tax, channelling the proceeds into environmental restoration and delivering energy-saving solutions to those who need it most. By partnering with an independent charity, we ensure these funds are used powerfully and effectively for the greater good.
REBEL RESTORATION FUND
As long as you have a gas cooker, we’ll supply the energy to keep it going. But we want a world without fossil fuels – and a better approach to carbon-removal is essential.
Holistic, nature-based, sustainable action is the only way. That’s why we’ve set up Rebel Restoration to back UK projects that remove carbon from the atmosphere, restore natural ecosystems and empower local communities. Our approach is bold and unconventional, but we believe it’s the right path. It’s about making daring, necessary choices for the benefit of our planet and its people.
Join us in revolutionising energy for a brighter, more sustainable future.
Read about the Rebel RestorationOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
We commissioned Pilio, an independent organisation to calculate our business operations’ carbon footprint for 2023. This assessment measures the greenhouse gas emissions from office and home-working energy use, procurement, business travel, staff commuting, water, and waste. The GHG Protocol methodology for company carbon accounting and DEFRA GHG emission conversion factors were utilised for this calculation.
As an energy company, we’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
To achieve our sustainability aims and objectives, we will develop plans to encompass governance, policies and reporting, an action plan for reducing the environmental impacts of our business operations, customer services, and both internal and external green investments.
Our approach to sustainability reflects our innovative thinking on accelerating the transition to a sustainable future for people and the planet. One example of this is our “carbon pollution tax,” which is donated to Rebel Restoration. Rebel Restoration then distributes grants to non-profits engaged in grassroots efforts to restore nature.
Of the total 141 tCO2e of emissions, four-fifths of the emissions (81%,114 tCO2e) are associated with GHG emissions not in our direct control.

Understanding Our Fuel Mix and Commitment to Sustainability
At Rebel Energy, we believe in transparency and responsibility when it comes to our fuel mix. While our current energy mix includes a smaller percentage of renewable sources than we aspire to, we are committed to making a meaningful impact in the fight against climate change.
Rather than relying on Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) to artificially enhance our renewable energy statistics, we’ve chosen a different approach – one that drives real change. We invest directly into Rebel Restoration, our sustainability initiative focused on environmental restoration and community resilience. Over the coming months, Rebel Energy will support a range of projects aimed at restoring ecosystems, promoting biodiversity, and encouraging sustainable practices in communities around the world.
This strategy enables us to make a tangible, positive impact on the environment today, while continuing to increase the renewable share in our fuel mix. Our commitment is not just to meet industry standards, but to go beyond them by fostering a sustainable future through both our business operations and philanthropic efforts.
We invite you to explore our fuel mix data below and learn how your energy choices with Rebel Energy are contributing to a brighter, more sustainable world.
